Coping Mechansims

I believe that eating disorders are really just really dangerous coping mechansims. In treatment I made a list of healthy coping mechanisms to use instead.



  • journal
  • meditate
  • take a walk outside
  • yoga
  • call a friend
  • talk to family
  • listen to music
  • play with a kid
  • play with a dog (go volunteer at a shelter if you have to!)
  • deep breathing
  • punch a pillow
  • take a bubble bath
  • lay outside and watch the sky
  • pray
  • read a non triggering book
  • craft
  • write a letter (to myself, to my ed, or to a friend)
  • knit
  • clean
  • make care package for someone
  • do nails
  • dye your hair
